DAY 6: CLOSING of creative series on Friday 22 January 2010
The inaugural OAaSIS International Foundation creative workshop series concluded with a well-received closing ceremony. The star-studded ceremony was jam-packed with children and some appreciative parents, held at Allman Town Primary School Courtyard, Kingston.
The ceremony started off on a good note with a simple, yet profoundly moving presentation of Psalm 23, by the drama students of the Allman Town Primary, who were more than glad to showcase their literary prowess.
Formal thanks were given to affiliates of the creative workshop series, which varied from individuals to major corporate entities. Those on board the workshop were Whistling Frog, Enhanced Realizm Studios, Berger Paint, Hot off the Press, Print Xpress, Allman Town Primary caterers, Howard Moo Young, Burger King, Videographer Robin Chin, Patrick James Designs, Stacey Adams designs, Xclusiv Entertainment, and Dwane Forbes.
Bank of Jamaica representatives, Sandra Moodie, and her assistant Ellan Neil were thrilled to accept a mural done by the students of the Allman Town Primary, which is to be added to the entity’s art collection. The highly appreciated offering, co-ordinated by Melhanie Spence received kudos all around.
Wizad the Magician could do no wrong by the children as he performed no less than 10 mind boggling magic tricks, each to good acclaim.
The children while visibly appreciative were happy to give their testimonials of the entire series.
Deborah Campbell a Grade 4 student spoke glowingly about reading the Shaggy Parrot book
She and the other children were glad to be able to sing along the storyline from beginning to end; enjoyed musical part, while learning about water pollution, and musical instruments.
Kymani Thompson another Grade 4 spoke about what he learnt about Careers in the Creative Industry. While being short in stature, he described in great detail a range of the careers from the list of careers given to the students from the presentations. He was happy that he “now knew choices in the creative industry, and in other fields that were not art but art was used like being a pilot, architect.”He surprised a lot of persons, including principal Kandi – Lee Crooks Smith.
Among entertainment celebrities present, was a notable presence of the Solid agency fraternity on hand namely Christopher Martin and Ce’cile, who were both well received in their entertainment proceedings of the programme.
Every entertainer that spoke on the platform spoke as an artist, creator of an art work, and encouraged the children to make sure they got educated, and encouraged the students to broaden their perspectives and skills, but none did more so than Sophia Brown, who recently penned a distribution deal with Universal Records.
Her speech was followed by an enthralling performance of Weak To You and Come Back Home. Ce’cile changed the pace with Take My Wings after she insisted that education is key, in every respect and energised the well behaved children who were content to just sit and sing along. Christopher Martin (dressed in white tee, black vest and pants) did very well in an interactive performance, deepening his voice, doing several rolls off his tongue from bass to tenor, much to the children’s delight. They got up, danced and sang so loudly to his selections, which they were familiar with. Iyah Shine, the only artiste whose arrival was delayed sang Livity and Violence Nuh Sweet among others as the children munched on meals courtesy of Burger King.

With this ending, great things are to be expected from future offerings of the OAaSIS Foundation and its subsequent projects for 2010.
